🏃 Run for the Reef 2026 - This Saturday at Bang Tao Beach
Six in the morning. Bang Tao Beach. The tide is still quiet, the sun hasn't fully committed, and you're running 3km along the waterline with 200 other people who also decided this was a good idea.
Run for the Reef is deliberately small - capped at 200 runners, which keeps it community-scale rather than mass-participation chaos. It starts at 6am at Arinara Beach Resort and runs through 9am. Entry is ฿490 and includes breakfast, a goodies bag, Starbucks and buffet discount vouchers, and a limited-edition event token if you collect beach waste during the run.

💡 Beat Beach Club Pricing This Shoulder Season
August and September are when Phuket's beach clubs quietly drop their prices - minimum spends shrink, covers disappear, and the same sunbed that cost ฿2,000 in December is suddenly a walk-in. Here's how to work it:
Call ahead about minimums. Most west coast venues have cut or removed daybed minimums for the shoulder. It's not always on their site - a quick message can save ฿500-1,000 before you arrive.
Go Tuesday to Thursday. Cafe del Mar in Kamala runs free-entry Bliss Wednesdays. RAVA Beach Club has a dedicated hospitality industry night. Same vibe, zero cover.
Time for happy hour. M Beach Club at the Marriott in Mai Khao runs BOGO cocktails at sunset - daily, walk-in. Worth the drive north.
Pool party packages beat door pricing. Barra Cuda Beach Club in Patong offers packages from ฿700 via Megatix - and that ฿700 comes back as full venue credit. Effective cost if you're drinking: zero.
Avoid peak Sunday windows. Even in shoulder season, Sunday 2pm-6pm at beachfront clubs creeps expensive. Midday arrival or late-afternoon Monday is the sweet spot.

📍 Residence Certificate Fee Now ฿1,000 Per Copy
Phuket Immigration is charging ฿1,000 per Residence Certificate under Ministerial Regulation No. 27. The catch: each driving license category requires its own original copy. Renewing car and motorbike licenses at the same time means two separate certificates - ฿2,000 before you reach the DLT counter. Photocopies not accepted.
Practical tip: Check your current license expiry dates now. If both are due within 60 days of each other, batch your immigration visit and get both certificates in one trip - saves a return journey.
💻 DTV Applications Facing Higher Rejection Rates
Freelancers and remote workers on the Destination Thailand Visa are seeing higher rejection rates at embassies. The pressure points: vague or informal client agreements, and soft-power course enrollments at institutions without formal credentials. If your DTV renewal is coming up, tighten your documentation first - employment contracts, payment records, and a clear foreign income stream are the baseline now.

🍜 Lock Tien Food Court, Old Phuket Town
No Instagram strategy. No QR code menu. Lock Tien has been at Bangkok rd. doing exactly what it does - Loba, Hokkien Mee, and Oh Aew - for longer than most expats have been on the island. The braised spiced pork offal is the real thing. The Hokkien Mee is Phuket-style (not Bangkok-style, and yes, it matters). The shaved ice Oh Aew dessert will quietly ruin every other sweet you've had this summer. Under ฿150 for everything. Go on an empty stomach.
Before: The Cham Cha weekend market on Ranong Road (Saturday and Sunday, stalls from early morning - dim sum, southern Thai snacks, herbal teas in the ฿40-120 range). Do the market first, then walk to Lock Tien for the main event.
After: Walk Bangkok Road head down south-west to Wilson's cafe for their 'Bullet Proof' coffee
