This week the Royal Forestry Department sent 160 officers up the hillsides. Not for a weekend inspection - for a full land deed audit across eight zones covering Cherngtalay, Rawai, Kamala, and Patong. Named establishments are already under review. INTERPOL IRONY: A Swedish woman wanted for a ΰΈΏ60M call-centre fraud ring got her visa extended at Phuket Immigration in January. She was arrested here Tuesday. Long-stay expats with stacks of paperwork are not taking this well.
CANNABIS CRUNCH: Eight dispensaries suspended, two licences revoked outright in an August 2 Patong sweep. Enforcement is moving from paperwork to padlocks.

π€ Thai Mother's Day - Tuesday Aug 12: Public holiday. Alms-giving ceremonies at Wat Chalong and Big Buddha from early morning. Expect road closures near both sites from 06:00 onwards. Government offices, banks, and many businesses will be closed. Stock up Monday.
π 90-Day Reporting: Phuket Immigration office is fully operational. If you're due this month, the counter opens 08:30. You can also report by post - envelope fee is ΰΈΏ40 for return. No excuse to miss it with ΰΈΏ800/day fines on the table.

160 RFD Officers Hit Eight Zones - Hillside Title Deeds Under the Microscope
Between August 3 and 5, the Royal Forestry Department deployed over 160 officers across eight high-risk zones as part of the government's escalating "Phuket Model" land enforcement campaign.
The targeted sectors span Thep Krasattri, Choeng Thale, Sri Sunthorn, Rawai, Kamala, and Patong. The focus: mountainous terrain and coastal hillside plots where Chanote and NorSor 3 Gor title deeds are suspected of illegally overlapping protected forest reserves.
High-profile establishments are already named. The Paradise Patong restaurant is under formal review - its land title is being checked against forest boundary records. Nui Beach and Laem Krathing Cape are being reclassified as protected public recreational forest. Karon's Wat Phra Yai area is next on the list.
This is Phase 2 of the enforcement drive that levelled 500+ structures at Nui Beach in July. Phase 1 was a demolition. Phase 2 is an audit. Phase 3, if the pattern holds, will be notices.
What This Means for Residents
If you own hillside property in any named zone: Get a Thai property lawyer to verify your Chanote title against current forest classification maps before the end of August. Building permits on elevated plots are being cross-referenced now.
If you're renting in a hillside villa: Not your legal problem, but your landlord may be receiving unwelcome correspondence soon. Worth a quiet conversation about their compliance status.
If you're watching the market to buy: The 4.3% price consolidation in northern Phuket this year is partly tied to this audit cycle. A discounted hillside villa with a title question is not a bargain right now.

A Swedish national wanted under an Interpol Red Notice for leading a ΰΈΏ60M call-centre fraud syndicate entered on a tourist visa in January and got a formal extension valid through August 31. Officers arrested her in Wichit on August 4. The irony of lengthy documentation requirements for law-abiding long-stayers vs. a Red Notice fugitive clearing the same counter is not lost on anyone.

Public health officials and Patong Police raided dispensaries on August 2, suspending eight operating licences and revoking two outright for zoning violations and on-premises consumption breaches. This is enforcement, not admin. If your regular spot in Patong has gone quiet, this is why.

π Phuket's Own on America's Got Talent
Nene Royal - born and raised in Phuket - is heading into the Judges' Callbacks round on AGT Season 21 after her rock cover of "Zombie" landed four unanimous yes votes from Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Mel B.
Her callback airs August 11 on NBC and Peacock. She's competing for one of 34 remaining Live Show spots - tougher than it sounds, with over 100 acts in the mix after producers scrapped the automatic quarter-final pass this season.
If she gets through, Live Shows kick off August 18 in LA, with the finale on September 22.

π‘ Ditch the Border Run. Use the In-Country DTV Extension Instead.
Border runs are now actively discouraged by Thai Immigration - land crossings are capped at two per calendar year, and repeat same-day crossings have been flagged as a grounds for denial. If you're on a DTV and approaching your 180-day limit, you have a cleaner option.
Here's the hack most people miss:
- Walk into Phuket Immigration on Phuket Town's Thepkrasattri Road before your current entry expires. Bring your passport, TM30 receipt, and bank statement showing ΰΈΏ500,000 maintained over 3 months.
- Apply for the 180-day DTV extension (Form TM7). Fee is ΰΈΏ1,900. Processing is same-day for most applicants who arrive before 11:00.
- Result: Up to 360 continuous days in Thailand on a single DTV entry cycle - no border crossing, no flight, no overnight in a Sadao guesthouse.
- Bonus: Your TM47 90-day report can be filed the same visit. Two boxes ticked in one trip to town.
Note: The ΰΈΏ500,000 bank balance requirement must be in a Thai bank account or accompanied by equivalent proof of funds. Check current requirements at Phuket Immigration before you go.

The Thai Revenue Department is finalising new rules that would exempt overseas income from tax if remitted to Thailand promptly. A 250-seat supper club near Boat Avenue that goes from structured dinner service to a proper DJ room without asking you to change venues. That's CLC, and it fills a gap that Cherngtalay has needed for a while.
The room is acoustically engineered - which sounds like marketing until you're in it and realise you can actually have a conversation at the table while something decent plays. Set menus run around ΰΈΏ2,000+ per person. Late nights are when the crowd shifts.
Best for: groups, date nights, anyone who wants one venue for the whole evening rather than a restaurant-then-bar shuffle up Soi Cherngtalay 4.
