On Monday, 150 local operators marched on Patong Beach under a "Save Phuket" banner. The same day, Thailand's Foreign Minister formally summoned the Israeli Ambassador. By that evening, 12 foreign nationals had been arrested running a scam operation from a Phuket house. This was not a coincidence - it was a signal.
TRANSIT: The ฿35 billion at-grade tram is officially dead. The Transport Minister killed it this week and pivoted to monorail and BRT. Nobody is breaking ground on anything yet, but at least the debate has moved forward.

Monday, September 8 was a busy day on the island. Between 150 and 200 local business operators, drivers, and residents gathered on Patong Beach under a "Save Phuket" banner - demanding stricter enforcement of commercial licensing laws, crackdown on unlicensed foreign operations, and tighter oversight of nominee business networks.
That same day, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow formally met with Israeli Ambassador Alona Fisher-Kamm to address friction involving illegal commercial activity and tourist behavior. The meeting followed sustained pressure from local operators who have flagged specific violations including unlawful nominee networks and unlicensed driver operations.
Separately, the Phuket Land Protection Group in Kamala formally petitioned provincial authorities to enforce commercial zoning rules. Community organizations don't usually draft formal petitions on the same day protests and diplomatic meetings occur. The coordination is deliberate.
The enforcement response was immediate. 12 foreign nationals were arrested operating a telecoms scam ring from a Phuket residential property. Weapons were seized in a separate Kathu district operation. Provincial police and immigration have openly stated that joint enforcement actions will continue.

Renewing Both Driver's Licences? Do It in One Immigration Visit.
Phuket Immigration charges ฿1,000 per address certificate (Letter Confirming Foreigner Address). If you need to renew both your car and motorbike licences at the Land Transport office, they require two separate original certificates. That's two trips unless you plan ahead.
- Request two certificates in one visit. Ask immigration staff for both originals at the same appointment. You'll pay ฿2,000 total - but you save an entire return queue.
- Batch with your TM-30 if both are due. If your 90-day report is also coming up, do all three in one trip. One queue, one parking nightmare, done.
- Bring printed forms. Phuket Immigration's printer situation is unreliable during busy mornings. Download your TM-30 form before you go from phuketimmigration.go.th.
- Go early. Aim for the first 20 minutes after doors open. The queue is manageable. By 10am it is not.

✈ DTV: Apply from home only - in-country is blocked
Since August 31, the Destination Thailand Visa must be applied for from your country of nationality or permanent residence only. 📄 Address Certificate: ฿1,000 per document, firmly enforced
Phuket Immigration is enforcing the ฿1,000 fixed fee for Letters Confirming Foreigner Address. This matters most when renewing driver's licences (car and motorbike require separate originals) or filing for extensions. 🏫 ED Visa: New digital dashboard active from September 1
Provincial Order 9040/2569 created an inter-agency committee to fix ED visa document processing after staff resignations at the Education Office left foreign students exposed to overstay risk. The new system includes a centralized digital submission dashboard, real-time status tracking, and automated alerts. Soho Pool Club sits inside Boat Lagoon Marina - which is already one of those spots most residents drive past without stopping. That changes now.

The current standard for foreign buyers is either the 49% foreign freehold condo quota, or a formally registered 30-year leasehold on landed property.
